Guatemala

The Country Office of Guatemala seeks to contribute to the strengthening of public institutions, the closing of social gaps in vulnerable groups, as well as the promotion of the private sector to achieve greater, more inclusive, and sustainable growth. This is done under a gender and diversity perspective, addressing climate change, and embracing digital transformation.

The objective of the IDB Group country strategy 2021-2024 is to contribute to the reversal of the social deterioration in Guatemala, worsened by the pandemic, and to stronger economic growth based on criteria of inclusion and environmental sustainability. To support this objective, the IDB Group proposes three priority areas to be addressed through dialogue, programming, and the portfolio:

(i) institution-strengthening;

(ii) improvement of basic service delivery to the most vulnerable population; and

(iii) promotion of the private sector for stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable growth. The cross-cutting themes will be gender and diversity, digital transformation, and climate change and natural disasters. The themes of institutional capacity, rule of law, and transparency and integrity will be addressed mainly in the first pillar, and on a crosscutting basis in the other.
