Measuring and Harmonization of the Perceptions of Quality of Life

The general objective of this TC is to improve the IDB's borrowing member countries ability to assess subjective dimensions of poverty and well-being, with an emphasis on quality of life (QL). Specific objectives are: (i) to collect primary data on perceptions of quality of life in four countries of the region as key input for the identification and design of loan projects and preparation of country strategies; (ii) to contribute to the identification of new challenges in social policy, improve the design of social programs, and identify mechanisms to transform institutions so that governments of the region can, with Bank support, be more responsive to the needs of the poor; and (iii) to collaborate closely with statistical agencies and existing survey programs so that the piloted methodology can be replicated and institutionalized.
