Mechanisms to reduce fatalities due to road accidents in Nicaragua

The objective of the Technical Cooperation (TC) is to support the Government of Nicaragua (GoN) in the creation of effective tools to reduce fatalities associated with road crashes in the country, as well as to strengthen the response capacity of the entities in charge of regulation, control and improvement of statistics for evidence-based decision making. The TC focuses on supporting the GoN in the creation of a coherent and updated normative and regulatory framework, focused on the protection of vulnerable users.
The specific objectives of the TC are: (i) to support the GoN in the establishment of a coherent and updated normative and regulatory framework focused on the protection of vulnerable users; (ii) to improve technical capacities for prevention in road safety; (iii) to promote awareness of citizen culture and protection of vulnerable users in the area of road safety.
These objectives seek to reduce the incidence of road crashes, injuries and deaths on roads and in rural communities in Nicaragua, while promoting greater citizen awareness and safe driving habits for all road users. In addition, the TC will include a detailed analysis of the causes of road crashes to improve the efficiency of the implementation of the other components, such as the development of standards, road safety plans, education and workshops.
