Latin American and the Caribbean public debt management specialists to meet in Montevideo

The Inter-American Development Bank and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uruguay, will host the “V Annual Meeting of the Group of Latin American and the Caribbean Public Debt Management Specialists” (LAC Debt Group) on April 16th and 17th, 2009 at the Sheraton Montevideo Hotel, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Academics, government officials and bankers will discuss the impacts of the global financial crisis on public debt management strategies, on investors’ and credit rating agencies’ perspectives and on public debt sustainability. The full agenda of the event is available in the Bank’s webpage

Álvaro García, Minister of Economy and Finance of Uruguay, will open the seminar. Treasury department and finance ministry officials from Mexico, Brazil, United States, Uruguay and Colombia are among the panelists. Debt management specialists from 23 countries, as well as representatives from various international organizations, such as OECD, CARTAC and UNCTAD, among others will also attend the meeting.

This event is one of several activities carried out by the LAC Debt Group, who was formally established in April 2005. Currently, the members of the Group are the debt management agencies of the Bank’s 26 borrowing member countries.
