IDB to host discussion on Transparency and Integrity as Conditions for Sustainable Development

High-level officials from the region to discuss progress, challenges and opportunities surrounding transparency and the fight against corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will host a roundtable discussion to mark International Anti-Corruption Day on Thursday, December 15, at IDB headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The roundtable discussion provides an opportunity to discuss progress in international anti-corruption efforts, review the IDB’s strategic approach, as well as share experiences from transparency and integrity initiatives in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil and Chile.

Speakers at the event will include Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the IDB; Jorge Hage, Minister, Head of the Office of the Comptroller General, Brazil; Joel Salas, Head of the Transparency Policy Unit, Ministry of Public Administration, Mexico; and Alejandro Ferreiro, President of Chile’s Transparency Council.

Enhancing transparency and preventing corruption are critical pillars of the IDB’s development mission. In recent years, the Bank has undertaken significant efforts to mainstream transparency, integrity and anti-corruption activities, strengthening the anti-corruption framework that is a hallmark of all projects that the Bank funds.

Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean increasingly highlight transparency and anti-corruption as key policy priorities. Several countries in the region actively participate in the Open Government Partnership, a global transparency initiative launched in September 2011.

Due to space limitations, this is an invitation-only event that is open to the media. Journalists interested in covering the event need to contact Geri Smith (geris@iadb.org, 202-623-3507) or Tom Sarrazin (toms@iadb.org, 202-623-3362). Registration begins at 09:30 a.m. at 1300 New York Ave. NW.

The event will be live streamed globally on the IDB website: www.iadb.org
