IDB Annual Meeting Agenda Highlights – March 26th

In the morning, the IDB has organized a seminar that will talk about global imbalances and the economic policy challenges for Latin America and the Caribbean and another one that will discuss about sustainable development of emerging cities.

Steven Puig, the IDB’s Vice President for Private Sector, will meet the press at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the Bank’s private sector operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the afternoon, an IDB seminar will discuss the impact of information and communications technologies on development. Late in the afternoon, the Bank will hold its first face-to-face public consultation on its draft private sector development strategy, which seeks to maximize the Bank’s development impact in the region.

Seminar: Global imbalances and Latin America

This seminar will discuss the new economic order that has emerged after the global financial crisis. The event will debate how commodity exporters should attempt to avoid overheating and Dutch Disease and how they can best deal with capital inflows. The event will also debate how commodity importers can best adapt to worsened terms of trade and what policy options heavily indebted countries must consider.

Seminar: Sustainable Cities: The challenges of growing with quality

The objective of this panel is to illustrate the state of the art theories and actions oriented to solve the challenges of environmental sustainability in emerging cities and purse a comprehensive urban development strategy that will help ensure fiscal sustainability and good governance.

The Institute of International Finance  holds news conference about its new regional economic overview for Latin America, which looks at current and prospective conditions in each of the region's major economies and include forecasts for 2011 and 2012.

Seminar: Development Connections: Connecting the Unconnected

This seminar will discuss the conditions that countries need to reach in order to fully exploit the potential developmental impact that can be triggered with the use of information and communication technologies.

News conference about the 4th Meeting of the Finance Ministers of the Americas and the Caribbean.
