PEOPLE
ALBERTO YAGUI has been named the IDB's alternate executive director for Peru and Colombia. He was most recently the president of Peru's Comisión Nacional Supervisora de Empresas y Valores.
ANTONIO SORUCO VILLANUEVA, formerly the principal advisor to the Bank's executive director for Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay, has been named alternate executive director for the same countries.
HIROSHI TOYODA was appointed manager of the Private Sector Department. He had been IDB executive director for Japan and a group of European countries.
ANTONIO VIVES has been named deputy manager of the Bank's Sustainable Development Department. He was chief of the Infrastructure and Financial Markets Division of the same department.

A distinguished group of experts on economic development debated this question in late 1996 at a symposium at the IDB's headquarters in Washington, D.C. With this issue, THE IDB bids farewell to Samuel Silva, associate editor and a valuable part to our efforts to report on the IDB and Latin American development. He leaves for Miami to become U.S. correspondent for América Economía, a premier business publication that covers the region.
