Overview

 

Jamaica, as a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), designates a Governor to represent its interests on the IDB Board of Governors.

At the IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Jamaica is represented on the Board of Executive Directors. This position is shared with the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago. The chair is held by an Executive Director, who is elected for a three-year term by the Governors of Jamaica, the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago. This setup ensures that Jamaica has a significant role in the IDB's executive operations and decision-making processes.

The IDB Group Country Strategy (CS) 2022-2026 with Jamaica is designed to support the Government’s goals of achieving faster, inclusive growth and sustainable debt reduction. This strategy focuses on facilitating a post-pandemic recovery that is socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and driven by private sector engagement. 

The Country Strategy is centered around two key strategic areas:

  • Revitalizing the Productive Sector for Sustainable Growth: Enhancing productivity and fostering sustainable economic development through targeted support for the productive sector. 
  • Addressing Social Gaps: Tackling disparities and improving social equity to ensure broad-based benefits from economic progress.

Additionally, the strategy integrates cross-cutting themes into each strategic area, including gender equality and diversity, climate change and environmental sustainability, and strengthening institutional capacity and rule of law. These themes are essential for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development outcomes.
