Overview

 

Brazil is among the founding member countries of the IDB. As with all shareholders, Brazil appoints a Governor who represents the country on the Board of Governors.

At the Bank's headquarters in Washington, D.C., Brazil holds a seat on the Board of Executive Directors. This position is shared with Suriname and is led by an Executive Director elected to a three-year term by the Governors of Brazil and Suriname.

Strategy and Projects

Brazil’s country strategy for 2024-2027 is designed around three strategic pillars:

  1. Enabling the Green Transition and Strengthening Climate Resilience.
  2. Accelerating Growth Through Strong Institutions and Enhanced Productivity.
  3. Advancing a New Social Agenda for a Prosperous and Inclusive Country.

Additionally, the strategy provides cross-cutting support for challenges related to: (a) Gender Equality and the Inclusion of Diverse Population Groups; (b) Climate Action; and (c) Institutional Capacity, Rule of Law, and Citizen Security. The IDB Group has been mainstreaming environmental, climate, gender and diversity, and institutional capacity issues in its operations in Brazil.

Country strategies remain valid for one year beyond the stated period, as they remain active throughout the preparation of the following strategy.
